Silk Care
Silk is a luxurious, natural fabric that requires special care. Based on recommendations from international textile experts, we’ve compiled the key principles of silk care.
According to the Silk Association of America and the International Association for Textile Care Labeling, here are the essential guidelines:
1. Washing

Hand washing is recommended in cool water (up to 30°C) using a pH-neutral detergent designed for silk.

Use natural detergents free of enzymes and harsh chemicals.

Gentle soap flakes or natural Marseille soap are ideal.

Machine washing is possible on a delicate cycle, but it’s best to place silk in a protective laundry bag.

Do not soak for long – a few minutes is enough.

Avoid bleach and enzyme-based detergents as they can break down the silk fiber.
Avoid:

Enzyme-based detergents – they degrade protein fibers.

Chlorine bleach.
-
Strongly perfumed detergents.
2. Drying
According to the Textile Research Institute, silk should be:

Not tumble dried or wrung out – this can damage fibers and distort the shape.

Gently pressed in a towel to remove excess water or allowed to drip dry naturally in the shade.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade colors.
-
Do not dry on a radiator.
3. Ironing

Iron on low heat (max 110°C).

Use a steam function or press through a thin cotton cloth.

If possible, avoid ironing altogether – silk naturally smooths from body heat. For example, place a wrinkled silk pillowcase on a pillow and you’ll be surprised how well it straightens itself.
4. Storage

Store silk in a dry, well-ventilated space.

Avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture.
-
If needed, use bags made from natural fabrics.

Use natural moth repellents, such as cedar wood or lavender sachets.
